And why not, indeed? One can scarcely dream up a better location, if enjoying your favourite tipple, whilst watching the ocean lap the shore, is your way of seeing off a perfect day. The good news is that at La Vista Lodge in Plettenberg Bay, every hour is cocktail hour. We understand that during the holidays, a cheeky little cocktail craving never keeps regular hours, so if you have the urge to start early, then be our guest. We bring you some of the best cocktails in Plettenberg Bay, with one of the best views that dusk brings to our sandy shores.

There’s something about a tiny, brightly coloured, paper umbrella and a twist of orange peel atop a beautiful glass that gets the party going in earnest. Ever wonder just where the cocktail craze started? Traditionally cocktails were a mixture of spirits, sugar, water and bitters, but by the 1860s, a cocktail frequently included a liqueur. With the Bartender’s Guide (or how to mix drinks) written in 1806 by Jerry Thomas, aka “Professor” Thomas, the cocktail as we know it today, started gaining serious popularity. The advent of travel and the invention of ice, cemented this tipple as the king of party starters. Today, mixology is as commonplace as the cucumber sandwich of its day and the popularity of cocktails is at an all-time high. At La Vista we are progressively on the side of the cocktail, be it classic or modern. Here are a few suggestions to make this summer, festive season one to remember, with a little help from the humble tot or two of vodka.

Here are a few ‘trusted and tried’ cocktails we think you will enjoy to experiment with. Cheers!
