Plettenberg Bay is home to romance, enjoy one of these romantic cafés and other places to visit along the Garden Route.
Only in Plettenberg Bay can you zip through to have fresh fish and chips for breakfast nestled in a vast choice of restaurants with spectacular sea, mountain or forest views and then have eggs on artisanal bread while soaking up the sun and watching dolphins play in the bay. The locavores will savour the produce and the crisp, cool wines from the Plett Winelands. There are plenty of romantic café, bistros and restaurants to enjoy while here with your loved one.
For the best in sweet and savoury delicacies that transport you to another time, take your sweetie to Clare’s Cakes and Deli on Plett’s Main Street.
Vibey beach tunes, freshly ground coffees and wood-fire oven pizzas under the sunny blue skies of Plett will get you ready for the remainder of your day at La Cafeteria, located at Plett’s famous Central Beach.
The historical Gansevallei farmhouse, originally built in 1880, was home to one of Plett’s original homestead residents – the Toplis family. Mungo Mill stands proudly as one of the few working textile mills still in operation today. Open to the public, the mill showcases a cross-section of weaving production from pre-industrial revolution to present day. Mungo products are sold internationally and their textiles from towels to bedding are very popular amongst locals and tourists. After your tour, mill around one of the many shops to browse boutique clothing, houseware, pottery and other beautiful and unique gifts. When you are ready to refuel, pop into Roost and dine under the Milkwood trees or in their sunny café. But be careful of the little monkeys that might want to steal a crumb or two.
Find your path through South Africa’s smallest Wine of Origin region and boutique wine community. The Plett Winelands has become well-known for its uniquely South African bubbly. From the valleys of Harkerville and the Crags further west, you will also find effervescent Rosé and the wholesome pleasures of Pinot Noir varieties. A romantic lunch in the vineyard or overlooking waterways at the base of mountains will leave you satisfied.
Something you won’t want to miss is one of Plett’s magnificent and romantic sunsets. Few cocktails compare favorably with those experienced at Emily Moon or Simon’s Bar at the same location. Enjoy the birds as they swirl and launch from the craggy cliffs overlooking the Bitou river snaking through wetlands below.
Pack up a romantic picnic filled with local favorites and head off to Robberg Nature Reserve. Grab one of the several picnic tables and enjoy the vista over the bay or on the ‘wild side’.
The Bungalow Restaurant offers sandy shores on it’s doorstep. Here you will find the music, the chill and the sushi – sublime for you and your partner.
